Stronsay Craft Fair

November, four pupils (Melvin, Millie, Sam and Lilly), ably assisted by Vicki Holland, held a craft stall at the Christmas Craft Fair at the community centre. With a wonderful array of goods, they did an amazing job representing Stronsay School making and selling items, raising the grand total of £215.30 for SOS (Support Our School). The Peedie Otters also helped make some of the goods at their Christmas craft session earlier in the week. WELL DONE and THANK YOU ALL!

To Infinity and Beyond...

As part of the “To Infinity and Beyond” topic, in primary the children have been learning about moon phases.  The focus was on learning about; waxing, waning, crescent and gibbous, full moon, new moon, illuminated, etc. They all listened really well and spoke about the different phases of the moon, understanding that the moon does not actually change shape; only the portion we see changes and the moon is not a light source, but is illuminated by the sun. They had great fun experimenting with the moon phase display.
They were also really interested in learning about moon rise and moon set times, as this links with their homework which was to observe the moon.  We looked at a few websites which help with knowing when we might see the moon for example:
