Career Management Skills

On the 25th of October 2015, Gemma Mackay, Careers Adviser from Skills Development Scotland, visited Stronsay School to speak to all of the secondary pupils, mainly the S4s, about careers and the future.  Skills Development Scotland can help with subject choices, career options, interview skills, CVs, applications, job search, student finances and courses and entry requirements. We focused on the area of Career Management Skills which includes:

  • Self: knowing who you are
  • Strengths:  knowing what you are good at
  • Horizons: knowing what I out there and
  • Networks: knowing who can help you

We focused on Horizons where we thought about job roles, discussed our opinions on different options after school, looked at different possible routes we could take after school and learnt what each other thought of the future options.
She held group sessions and is coming back to Stronsay in 2 weeks to have one-to-one appointments with the S4s. She spoke to us about our options after school such as college, University, work and apprenticeships. To get us thinking about our options we each had to write positive and negative sides to each of the available routes after school. We then participated in an activity where we had to guess what job was being described by the skills needed.
We all found the session really helpful as we now have a clearer idea of what future options are available to us. It has also helped us to prepare for our work experience placements.

  1. Without some managerial skills a person might face trouble leading a team. These will lead to disaster and will only make the project become worst. Never let down yourself enroll now to become a better manager: http://www.advantagetraining.com.au/certificate-iv-in-leadership-and-management-bsb42015/
